Default Who created your websites?
Hi,

I was just wondering if you can recommend a website with easy to use tools to create my first VA website?

I purchased my domain through GoDaddy.com and used their free Website Tonight software to create my website.

I am, however, in the process of using Hamid's classes here to rebuild it from scratch...

I've heard that Go Daddy is great for registering domain names, but not so great for web hosting - a colleague of my husband's was complaining about it the other day.

Try downloading a trial version of Microsoft Expression Web, it has nice templates that are really easy to use.

Thank you Lily for your recommendation.

I am not very good with designing websites so I have been surfing on the web and found homestead. Do you know anything about them?

No, that's the nice thing about Expression Web; it has a what you see is what you get mode and a code mode. Just make sure any edits you make are to the .dwt file because that drives the changes to the rest of the pages in the templates. If you don't need major changes, you're fine, if you need a lot of colour changes, etc. you have to change the CSS style sheet. See oakvilleadmin.com. This was done in about 30 minutes using Expression Web. I just used one of their stock templates but I did link back to my main website. I used EW for my oakvilleadmin.com site which is included in my hosting included in my IVAA web hosting. oakaa.com is my main site.

I've worked with both Website Tonight and Homestead and I can't say which is better. Any content management system will have its limitations. I've used Expression Web but found it time consuming to learn. If you don't have any experience with web design or html, then I would use a template based program like Website Tonight or Homestead or something similar. It will get you up and running and then later on you can do something else.

Just my opinion.

I changed one Website Tonight's templates to show my logo instead of their picture. I was happy with the initial result but still want to code one from scratch myself!

I used MS Office Live. There a couple of limitations, but overall I think that it was a great option for my first website (ie it is free and easy to use!).

I used freewebs, it is free but has upgrade options that you pay for. For me with no HTML knowledge (well very limited), it was ideal for a first website, very easy to use.
