Default Where do you get your websites?
I am new to this forum so please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section but I am in the beginning stages of getting my VA business going and wanted to find out where is the best resource to start your website?

Thanks for the tips in advance!

I purchased my own domain name and use Yahoo to host my site. They have some templates if you don't know much about building sites.

Microsoft has one called "Microsoft Live Small Business" that offers the site, popular Microsoft programs and email.

There are a bunch out there.

I recommend Bluehost for hosting which offers a free domain purchase with sign up. The price for hosting is as low as 6.95/month. They also have a great affiliate program that I joined and really recommend. Blog Based site is the best way to go even if you do not plan on blogging. The search engines love it.

I use freewebs, you can have a free option which I currently have (has advertising), but I'm going to upgrade asap ($45 for a year), and then I bought a domain name from 123reg and used both the mail and webforwarding.

Look for a website host that offers one-click installs of WordPress or Joomla - you can get great free templates and add content without having to be a 'designer'. My sites are in Joomla - but WordPress works great for many folks, too!

I also wanted to mention that Tess & Hamid offer web hosting here and offer great technical support. You would still need to design your website yourself or hire a designer.

I've been using Bravenet for the past 3 years and have been completely happy with them, they have templates if you want them, webmail, WYSIWYG, and text only building, I don't know about other hosting sites unfortunately.

Hi Naoma,

I just finished my website. I went for a free host so that I can be out on the internet while I am looking for a host that I can work with. The site is www.synthasite.com. They offer templets as well. Good Luck I hope all goes well.

The cheapest way would be for you to use a template to create your website. Godaddy.com has an easy online website builder.

I hired a web designer to design my website. I'm not a web designer and since this is my business website I want to have the most professional face both on and off-line. Hiring a professional isn't always cheap but if you're trying to sell your potential clients on hiring a professional (you) then you need to do it yourself, in my opinion.

Keep in mind that a lot of the free website builders may look great, but 95% of them won't rank high enough to even be listed on Google & now Bing & Yahoo! It can be very difficult to get free and low cost builders to work right. I'm not just saying this because I build websites, but because I used a free one to start out years ago...then I went to homestead. Now that I learned how to do the coding, my sites rank much higher...and look cooler. Just something to keep in mind!

I purchased my vrsioffice.com domain from GoDaddy and I use GoDaddy to host the site. I built my site myself using Microsoft Expression Web 3.

Good Luck,

Julie

I've been using Bluehost domain hosting since 2000 and have been very happy with their service. I started using MS FrontPage in 1997 and am currently using MS Expression Web 3.
