Default What software do you use to edit ....
I'm desperately trying to get my website completed. I purchased a template and am trying edit the menu buttons (which are w/o text). I'm using Kompozer to edit the HTML. All the images or either gifs or jpgs. I have PaintShopPro 8 but when I add text to the menu buttons it turns out fuzzy and I can not figure out what I'm doing wrong (I detest PSP).

Anyway ..... what software do you use to edit or create graphics for your website. Looking for either a freeware/shareware or something relatively cheap for the time being. I just want nice crisp text.

Can I actually do it in MS Publisher or will that add a bunch of junk to the file?

Thanks!

We use Photoshop, Fireworks etc. which are definitely not free I know many of our members use something called Paint.net that IS free and I've only ever heard good things about it.

There is also a free version of Photoshop online - click here for the thread about that one. I'm not sure just how much functionality it has (as a free version) but it may be worth checking out.

I found this other thread also where someone mentioned something called GIMP...

Thanks Tess, I knew you would come to my rescue. Purchasing a software for website editing etc is on my future expenditure list but for now I must make do.

I will definitely check those out. I just downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver as well.

Thanks again!

Kim - I hear you when you say you want to get your site up and running asap, so do whatever you can to launch it, and know that you'll continue to tweak it for a long time after you go live. So here's what I'm trying to say: you may as well go ahead and learn html. I use Dreamweaver, but it's still very helpful to know html; you can see both your 'design' view and your 'code' view simultaneously, and you really need both to make the pages right. The coding is not difficult to learn. Check out Hamid's Saturday classes right here at Virtual Assistant Forums!
In the end, you'll spend as much time figuring out templates or software like Dreamweaver as you would learning html, so why not go straight to the source?

Remember, you can always edit your code in Notepad if you have to - just save it as filename.html and upload via FTP - works just as well as Dreamweaver (in my humble opinion - Hamid would disagree vehemently with me [loves Dreamweaver ]

I agree with Mary. It's very useful to know at least basic HTML to makes sure you don't have random code messing up your site.

I also use Dreamweaver and Fireworks and they are both great. I'm no coding master by any means, but I can fiddle enough to break things then fix them again.

Thanks all .... I have been attending and loving Codehead's HTML/CSS classes which has at least made what would have been totally Greek now just Spanish!!!

I don't know what I was thinking this afternoon trying to make a button in PSP ..... I guess I had been staring at it for too long.

The good news is that after downloading five more softwares, I found the answer I needed. At least to get me up and going and then I want to do DHTML menus

Here's a really good site that will create glass buttons with reversing mouse-over effects. The site creates the button and a zip file .... just download .... unzip and drum roll please ........ my new shiny buttons.

Here's a sample ....

Happy Day

That's cool! I like the way that button looks. It's so frustrating when you get stuck on something, but very rewarding when you finally figure the darn thing out!
I wish you smooth sailing the rest of the way.

Very cool, Kim! I think this may be exactly what I've been looking for. I can't wait to really play around with it a bit
