thanks for the links everyone - there is sooo much to learn. How long did it take for everyone to create their sites? did you do them yourselves? online service?

I did my own but it took many many months. But that's just me
Actually it only took a long time because I worked on it for only a small part of each day. But I spent a lot of time on my content and researching first. When that part was done the rest went pretty smoothly and I found it to be a lot of fun. I didnt have to know html (I know a little)...but eventually I would like to put up my own. But right now my time is really limited. As long as I have a Web presence that is the most important thing to me.

I started out just messing around in Dreamweaver, and later took a course through www.ed2go.com, which works with local community colleges. For $55 I advanced to an intermediate level. Online, well-structured, well-supported - I highly recommend it.

I've renovated my site many times (like 5 or 6 times) in just over a year - ha! html is fun!

Hello!

I did pretty much most of my own site. Someone suggested making my fonts all the same. Since I didn't know HTML and really didn't want to spend the money to have someone do this for me I went to the Internet and typed in "Learn HTML" the first link that popped up was www.w3schools.com. I pasted the code from my page in to their editor and was able to play around with it until I got it right. They give examples on everything. I made a note of the links mentioned in this thread and will check them out. I want to learn how to change the color on my navigation buttons. Still haven't figured that out yet.

Have a great day!
Beth

I also did my own site as we were lucky enough to already have Dreamweaver. It took me an intensive weekend of following tutorials to get a site up and then I took a while to tweak it to what I liked. There is an awesome set on this forum for HTML learning which will be a great help to you. I just Googled 'web designing free' and 'dreamweaver tutorial free' etc and it's amazing what's out there. I think I will be checking out some of these links though because it's time to get serious. Do you know a student or are you going to become one because then you can get the software you want cheaper. If you enrol in a design course, depending on the institution, they might even provide access to software if you're lucky. A lot of universities do that in Australia. Good luck!

Cheers,
Marie

Just an afterthought - but perhaps can help you when you decide to invest in some web applications. I recently purchased Adobe Illustrator for 69.95 (regularly 599.95) Adobe Flash professional CS3 for 59.95 (regularly 699.00) at http://soft-low.net/. These are OEM software but there has not been a glitch on ordering from them (you may have to wait 24 hours to get your product - I did on Illustrator - but that is well worth it for the price savings!) They also have Dreamweaver ( I choose to use Expresison Web am an old FrontPage user), Camtasia Studio and tons more for great prices.

Yes, I know CS3 is not the newest latest and greatest, but, hey, they work and I can choose to upgrade if I want.

There are some weird things you must do with Adobe type software (they are the most nazi like software people around) but I was able to get through it ;-).

Another idea - perhaps you can find yourself a mentor on the forums. Many will help you "wade through" how to's on design.

Can anyone offer feedback to the program Expressions Web? Is it the replacement for the obsolete Frontpage. Is it an add on to FP or an independant program? Can I open FP pages in EW to correct the unnecessary code that FP is noted for?
Recommendations?
Thanks
Jean

Is the website below not around any more? I went there, but nothing came up. I would love to visit it.

If it is not around ~ Does anyone KNOW of Another site like it? That would be a huge help...

Thanks ~ Bobbi
