Default Video as Flash Intro Page?
Although I'm not a fan of flash intro pages, I'm considering loading a video I made as a flash intro page as it may wet the appetite of potential clients. I love the way it turned out and I'm so tempted. What do you think?

Hi Lynne,

Because your video is over 1 minute long, I would say it is best not to use it as a Flash intro for your website -- it is a little long for that type of intro.

However, why not place the video on on the main page perhaps? Over to the right side of the screen, just under your header (below the text Since 2000 that is in your header)? This way, when people go to your site, they are immediately brought to the home page and have the option of watching the video. I think most people will click on the video to watch. I know when I go to a website that has a video placed on a site, I click on it. Plus, this way you are giving them an option.

Darlene

Great job, it's too bad that sometimes the picture and text do not have enough contrast to see each clearly otherwise I think you did a really good video. I didn't have any problem watching it, but as Darlene says, probably too long for a flash into.

Cheers!!

I am the type of person that if there is music and video that starts up immediately when I go to a website I will click off as fast as I can. You might want to put it on your website as optional for someone to watch. I also would recommend that you shorten it. A minute and half is a long time for someone when they are browsing. Sound a little silly but I found myself antsy after 45 seconds or so.

A rule of thumb I have heard is, flash and videos in splash pages are for things like movie trailers. In fact they say to avoid intro pages (splash screens) altogether unless you have to.

If you want to addition a movie you might want to add it as a link that the user can click on but not make them have to view it, or click away, on a splash screen.

You did a nice job on the video!!

I wouldn't use it as an intro. I always click off when they come on when one first signs on.

I would suggest creating a tab for videos so users can click there and they will know what to expect.

If you can shorten, fine, if not, then just indicate in parenthesis that it is 1.5 mins long. At least folks get a heads up beforehand and if they want to, they can listen through to the end.

What did you use to make the video?

Thanks everyone for the input, much appreciated. I've put it on the home page for folks to click on if they wish. I made it with Microsoft Video Maker, my first attempt at such a thing but I love doing anything creative.
