I know many of us have Wordpress sites for our business and other uses, so I wanted to pass along an urgent request from Wordpress to upgrade your blogsite. If you haven't seen it on Twitter yet, Mashable published
this article with a comment from Wordpress stating that versions below 2.8.4 are vulnerable to hacker attacks. These attacks are creating a new administrator user (the hacker) which can then freeze all of your posts and pages, making them inaccessible to you. From the sounds of things, it's not pretty or fun to try to fix.
Upgrading your blogsite is very easy to do. In fact, if you haven't upgraded already, there is usually a link at the top of your dashboard when you log in that says there is a new version available. If you click on that link, it will give you two options to upgrade. I suggest clicking on the "Upgrade Automatically" as Wordpress will then take care of installing the new version on your blog and you won't have to do anything else, and it only takes a few seconds. It saves a ton of time in the future trying to fix your site if you are attacked by these hackers.
