Default Twitter background client question
Hi, gang,

If any of you offer the design of Twitter backgrounds for your clients, do you ask them what screen resolution they want it optimized for? What other questions do you ask as far as size?

Some clients don't understand that the size of someone's monitor has nothing to do with the screen resolution they have set. Any assumption that a Twitter design is going to look the same and perfect for everyone is not realistic and I really don't want to be fudging with the size from then to eternity.

I would think that simply making them aware that a background optimized for the most used resolution would be sufficient, but what say you?

Tony,

I have found that you can ask them technical questions like that and MOST will say they don't know. What you can do is ask what things they want on there and the branding colors......and then you have to decide what is best. True if you tried to do it for their resolution, it could be off for others...I explain to them that it will be different on some monitors...but that it will still look great.

Here is a site that can help with some of the sizing..How to Create Custom Twitter Backgrounds.

I keep both resolutions of 1024×768 and the 1280×1024 screen resolutions in mind when creating backgrounds. I agree with Rebecca that clients are more interested in the aesthetics so I am sure to ask them questions based on their style and brand.

When preparing your contract for the job I list out these types of specifics. Most of my clients respond with "You are the expert, tell me what is best" so I use the standards that I know are most used or will be the most effective for their market.

I've now been designing background for many clients on a pretty regular basis and here is what I do:

I design the background on a 1900x1200 canvas and use http://twtbg.me/ to check the results.

If everything looks good for the 3 highest resolutions, I call it good. I don't even worry about 1024x768.

Wow! Glad I found this thread.

I'm trying to get my client all set up with Social Media and one of the things I'd like to try doing is create a nice branded background for her. I think this information will really help. Thanks for sharing.
