One thing to keep in mind when looking at Wordpress is that you want to be using the non-hosted version, which is Wordpress.org vs. Wordpress.com - if you want a site that starts out optimized to some degree. It's also free and has a ton of templates.
Also, when choosing a hosting company select one that will give you the ability to make your life simple through simple interfaces and good customer service.
HostGator is awesome and their customer service in my humble opinion cannot be surpassed. I can't tell you how many times I've called and my problem wasn't even really a HostGator problem - they still would help or at least attempt to. That's the definition of above and beyond - and it is live people you talk to.
Just my 1 cent for the day.
