I have a class of 69 who just attended their 40 yr reunion, and are looking for a way to share e-mail addresses and photographs, they would prefer a private cheap site.

Are they familure with HTML / CSS? If not, then I suggest going to Domainsite.com, purchase a domain name. Then go to weebly.com and purchase a hosting package. Once you have purchased the hosting package weebly.com will allow you to set a password for the entire site. Who ever is running the site can then send the PW to those who are invited to use the site.

have you checked into a Ning site? Pretty easy to set up and you can keep it to members only. Also, you can create group in Facebook that is private and only allow/approve certain members to join. If it's on Facebook you can post pictures and people can comment plus you can share information.

Another option is to share photos using Picasa which only requires a Google account and you can set it so only certain people can see the photos. To go along with this you can create a Google groups to share other information.

And finally, you can check out Vox.com which is a blogging type tool where you can set the privacy settings to only be visible to certain people. You could create a "group" type blog. Vox is by the Typepad folks so it should be pretty intuitive to use.
