Default Overall impression of new client site
I just have to preface this by telling you all I got this job by adding my business signature line to an email in reply to another marching band parent about buying cookie dough for a fund raiser. It was that simple!

This is completely preliminary. The site is for a woman who is starting her own catering business. She also needs a logo and I told her I don't really do logo design outside of creating something with existing graphics and fonts. I spent the better part of yesterday working on a logo that in the end I deemed hideous. The only thing I like about it was the colors. I decided the header might look better with a photograph and hit istockphoto and searched salad. The image I used was one of the first ones and it actually fit my color scheme to a tee! It was amazing.

In any case, if you all wouldn't mind giving me your overall impression of the site ignoring content. It's Word Press because I'm hoping that will make it much easier for her to update the site on her own.

This is the Link! Thanks for any feedback...

Well the home page looks great but I would like to see it when it's finished.

Jeanne I love the colors and I think it is a great start. I agree with you, the stock photo you chose fits perfect with the color scheme. Have you let the client preview it yet, and if so what type of feedback did you receive from them?

I really like what you did. The background image is great! I like the choice of colors too. I know you had mentioned you tried creating a logo, but didn't like how it turned out. I must say, the Creations by Chris text blends into the background...what I mean is, it doesn't pop. Everything else is so eye pleasing, that the name of the company doesn't jump at me, I had to keep looking up to remember the name. I am completely in awe how VAs like yourself create awesome looking websites in Wordpress. Nice job.

Thanks everyone.

Like I said, this is a very preliminary design and it has not been shared with the client yet.

@Amanda - Since the client will be adding her own content, I won't have complete control over the "finished product." But I will share again at least once more.

@StephanieP - Thanks. I picked the colors while looking at Flickr photos of fruits and vegetables.

@Dawn - The client hasn't seen it yet. We'll be meeting the beginning of next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

@Darlene - Thanks for the feedback. I created the background image (and the food line image on the front page) from a dingbat/food font. I messed around with backgrounds and no background at all. Finally I decided to go with one color and faded out the color by pouring white over the image several times.

About the name/logo - I wanted to use a "crisp" font and something that would translate well into print. Perhaps I'll play around with it a bit more for "poppability."

@Everyone - thanks for the feedback so far. I'd love to hear more if anyone is willing.

If I'm brave enough, I might show you the hideous logo.

Fabulous job! I like it very much.

I, too, like having "playing around" room on a old website of mine to play around with website drafts.

I really like the photo and the colors for the font for the business name. I think they go well together. And the background image is great too. Thanks for explaining how you did it.

The only think I might suggest is moving the business name away from the photo a little bit as the "C" in Creations gets a little lost.

I really like the orange on there as well, it's a good warm color for making you think of the comfort of food!

Great colors! I really like it...I'm sure it will 'fill in' a bit when the client's content is added in...very nice. The theme you created suits the context, as you said, 'to a T'!

I played around with the header image.

@Kimberly I moved the text away from the image and added a slight dropshadow to see if that will give it the pop that Darlene mentioned it needs.

I think I might move it away from the graphic a bit more.

Thanks for the continued feedback everyone.
