I have a client who would like a simple site done in ning.

I am not as familiar with this platform as I am with others and want to know if anyone can give me some quick hits about it. In particular, can she add video/audio clips? How limited is customization? I'm trying to get her to understand that she is a brand and she needs to prepare a "press kit".

I haven't really used NING myself (i.e. creating networks!) but I have used it personally; and I'm pretty sure that you can add video clips. I'm sure you can add audio clips.

With customisation, i think you're pretty limited, however you can change wall paper, font, colours, etc.

and it had "limited" customization. From what little research I can see thus far is that it is more of a networking site versus an actual business site. I don't know much about your client so I'm not sure about the press kit. I hope this helps!

You can add clips but the customization is very limited. I have admin rights to a networking site and cannot do the custom things I want - also alot of the plugins/addons don't work very well.

For a business I would not personally use it - unless there is a separate platform for businesses that I am unaware of.

Thanks for you input. I thought it looks just like a networking site.. which is good for her, but I personally think her site should be more professional/organized since she is helping people change their lives / which sometimes means organizing their lives.

She said she would send me a few Ning site that she likes and then I will share my thoughts with her.

Thanks again for your thoughts.. TO ME customization is a big thing, but who knows, it might not be to her.

Just ran across this post on Mashable that they put out today that I thought you might find interesting about how different companies are using Ning site. Looks like they've done quite a bit of customization on those sites. I know too, that there are people who specialized in the customization of Ning sites so this might something to consider as well. Alternatively, she could have a static website that links to a Ning site which she would then use to build a community. I've seen business who have a regular website but also have a Ning site for it's community building purposes.
