Default Moving from free wordpress.com to a hosted site
Hi there... I know how to move a wordpress site from one server to another, but is there a way to take the database content from the free wordpress.com site and move it to a new hosted server?

If anyone has any experience with this, I would appreciate some direction. I've seen numerous articles to move from hosted to hosted, but not from free to hosted.

Thank you!!

Jill,
It will only move your posts and pages but- Wordpress.com has an export fetaure in the dashboard.

Save the file where you can easily find it on your computer then go to your Wordpress.org dashboard and use the import feature in the sidebar to import that file.

Very easy!

Hi Christina,

Thanks for your response. Can you clarify one thing for me?

In moving away from the free site, client will be hosted with Blue Host and have WP installed through cPanel. Will the import feature be available through her WP dashboard on the new hosted site?

Thank you!

The import feature is built into WP so no matter where you install it, you will be able to access it. If you get stuck or have questions you can post here or catch me on skype or AIM (check my profile for usernames)

That's what I thought... in fact, I found it after I posted my last message to the forum. I'm used to working with paid hosting and cPanel... so I was a little leery of the capabilities of the free WP site.

I really appreciate your help. I'm confident all will go well. Seems pretty straight forward.

Have a great week!!!
