I am running into total road block coming up with a logo I like anyone know of a service or group that is really worth the money to help come up with something?
I thought about my business name "The Virtual Office Goddess" and considered what represented me the most. I started out with a computer monitor surrounded by a laurel wreath. The hubby suggested a goddess figure so I went looking for the right picture in Google. I found a picture of a goddess statue holding a gazing ball. Ah hah! I put my picture in Paint (www.getpaint.net) and changed her gazing ball to a laptop computer. Voila! Tess was kind enough to turn "goddess" and the business name into an actual logo.
SO, short version , think about how you want to present yourself/your business using your business name and build a logo around that.
I've always designed my own logos (including the one for this site) and have done logos for quite a few client sites and logos for my husband's sites too but I use a mix of software from Adobe (photoshop, fireworks, etc.) that are not necessarily a 'starting point'.
Do you have a concept in mind or even just a start to brainstorming?
Perhaps if you listed your ideas here along with your company name we can help you conceptually?

I did mine myself. I initially hired someone to create one for me, but I didn't care for anything she came up with. Primarily because she didn't listen to anything I told her I did and/or didn't want. I was only out $10 (the deposit) so it was no big deal. I bought a logo creator I found online somewhere for $39 and then did it myself. I'm not a very creative person so mine is pretty simple, but I think it fits my personality more because I did do it myself.

Erin has a really good point - if you check out her website you'll see she uses an image of her own smiling self in the space a logo might traditionally go. She gives people an immediate human image to relate to and because it really is *her* adds even more personality to her business site...
Another non-logo option (at least to get you started) is to find a font you really like and just draft your company name alone.

Great idea thanks I was actually considering putting a bio and photo on my site somewhere but I like the idea of my image being there I already have my photo on my business cards.
Another VA has an animated version of herself that I saw somewhere! It was really catchy and cool. I love the idea of branding "you". As Tess mentioned, it really impacts the human aspect!
