Default Joomla - use or not
I have a website created, however am thinking of using another sitemaker. Could any of you that use Joomla chime in with pro or cons of using this site maker?

Thanks
Faye

Hi Faye,

I don't use Joomla for my site, but I have setup and customized sites using a Joomla platform. Actually, Joomla isn't a "sitemaker" per se - it is a content management system (CMS), but has many extensions and plugins you can add - you can also incorporate a blogging extension. Joomla is somewhat comparable to WordPress, although WP is a blogging platform, but it can also be used as a CMS. Both of these are based on X/HTML, CSS, and php.

A site builder is most often based on a template. They use X/HTML, a bit of CSS, some use iframes, and most use tables for layout. They are kind of a "drag and drop" sort of way to build a site. If you can stay away from these it is better for SEO.

You might find that using WordPress would be an easier platform to use than Joomla, but if you're up for the challenge, Joomla is great for creating nice, professional looking sites, too.

HTH a bit,

I would love to learn to use Joomla as it seems it is becoming a standard. Right now it just makes my head hurt. LOL!

Hi.

I personally really like joomla as a CMS. To create a good template if you go down that road you can check out artisteer.com it's a great program.

Good luck with it.

One of the top forums to be used with Joomla is Agora. If you were to choose to use Agora, Heads-up! Stay away from Artisteer templates. They will create issues down the road.
