Question Image size
Hey. I have never built a website before and am curently working on mine. I am using Microsoft Office Live for now, mostly because it fits into the budget!! It seems to be easy to put together. I have picked out a few images from bigstock, but I'm not sure what size is best for websites. Any thoughts?

Hi Amy, I don't know which sizes Bigstock offers (feel free to post back and clarify if need be) but I find that for websites usually the xsmall or small versions are just fine unless you're using them on a larger scale in which case a medium might suit your needs. I'd say, give your page size some consideration - and size your images accordingly. If you end up with an image that is too big, you can always size it down in an editor. But if your images are too small to begin with, sizing them up will decrease quality drastically.

The really big images I would use for print jobs.

Hope that helps!

Hi Amy,

This is late but I just joined the forum. I've done a little resizing for ads and for blogging. I'm sure that you have found that you need different sizes for different jobs. Unless I want it full page, when I place a craiglist ad, the 640X480 works great. However, this is for a whole ad. What Tess just mentioned is just what I found. If your images are too small, the quality will be poor when you try to increase them.

Just a side note ... don't know if you knew it but if you join Photoxpress, they let you get one image for free a day. You have to pay for the better ones, however the free images are pretty good. I have found that I have to resize most of them if I am using them for blogs.
