Default HELP! I'm completely lost/stuck with Artisteer/WordPress
I've designed my template for my Wordpress site in Artisteer.
I've purchases my hosting (bluedog.com).
I've done the WordPress quick install through BlueDog.
I've exported my Artisteer design to a folder.

From what I've read, I do not need to go through the steps outlined in the WordPress.org readme file since I did the quick install.

At this point, I just need to know how to get my design uploaded onto WordPress. Then, I'm assuming, I make changes to the content directly through WordPress.

Any assistance/guidance anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I can usually figure this kinda stuff out by myself, but this has me completely stumped.

Mary,

If the artisteer files are in a zip file then you can upload it through your WP dashboard.

If not, choose all of your theme files, right-click once all highlighted and choose "send to compressed folder" (I'm assuming you have windows not mac).
Then go into your WP dashboard under appearance -> add theme-> the choose "upload" at the top of that page.
Browse to your zip file and upload, then activate.

Good Luck,
~Christina

With Artisteer you can just go back and save as a zip file (instead of to a folder), then follow the instructions Christina gave above.

Easy-peasy.

I swear...there are two main things in my arsenal right now...this forum and YouTube. As for YouTube, I am currently surviving on their tutorials because this coding stuff gets too confusing, sometimes.ut:

Pour a beverage of your choice, sip, breathe, relax.

I'm sure I'm going to get beaten up for this, but it seems that everyone is so hot on Wordpress, yet there are so many problems. I did my website on Godaddy very many years ago, changed my business name 3 years ago, went with a "Smartspace" which includes, website, blog, social page and more, all quite inexpensive. No HTML knowledge needed, all very simple to deal with.

Take a look at my website - updated it in 5 minutes today, no sweat. I'm not promoting Godaddy but there must be other websites hosts who offer simple, user-friendly options?

All I see on the web is people struggling with Wordpress. Why spend hours struggling? Get/do something simple and effective. All the countless hours you spend struggling with something is time you could spend on marketing and finding clients.

Just my two pennyworth.

Lynne

Lynne,
We would never beat you up here

I am a Wordpress fanatic because I love working with it so much but, I would never suggest it was the best , or only, option for everyone. Many VA's are uncomfortable, or just don't want to deal, with the idiosyncrasies of WP.

Your website has to be what YOU want it to be and if your host offers a sitebuilder that does that for you, GREAT.

Because Wordpress is so widely known as easy to work with, I see a lot of VA's who decide to try and learn all about it so they can add it as a service for potential future clients. The best practice for that is working on your own site.

If anyone is struggling with Wordpress, ask your questions here. There are enough of us WP-savvy people on VAF, your sure to get a pretty fast answer.

Mary,

Yes it can be confusing at first and we here (including Christine) will be more than happy to help. Sometimes it is best to walk away for a spell and then come back when you are fresh and ready to try again.

Lynne,
No beating up here, use what is best for you. There are some who do not like GoDaddy just as there are some who do not like WordPress. To each their own. However, when Mary gets it all straight this is another service she could possibly add to her offerings since many people are switching to WordPress to power their sites.

Thanks everyone. I'm still battling with/working on my site. I am determined to learn WP for the exact purpose of offering it as a service to my clients. I haven't worked on it for at least a week. I'm hoping I can return with a renewed sense of attack.

I too would love to learn WordPress but I wouldn't know where to begin with it...when it comes to webdesign I am just at a lost (as you all can probably see from my site lol)...anywho I will try to find WordPress and see if I can play around with it if not for anything more but my own website since it is so expensive to get it designed.
