Post FTP and Uploading Web Pages
Hello Everybody,

I had an opportunity to work with a client on a project but because I was not able to do what the client was asking me, I turned him down an referred the client to another VA that could help.

The project was to download a page from the clients website, make some minor changes and upload it back up to the FTP account but I was so lost and this is where I am hoping, I can get help from the VAF friends. How can this been done? Below is what the client requested of me:

  • Download a page from the website that looks like it might be easy to delete the information and replace it with the testimonials
  • Try to keep the same type of formatting as the rest of the website.
  • Then I would need to upload the file again to the FTP client.

I am not familiar with this. I do use an FTP client form my own wordpress website, but this client says that his site is an html website.

Help, I would like to learn how to do this. I am currently trying to find out from the internet any information I can on this but I would welcome any help.

Thanking everybody in advance.

Ivette

Ivette,

There are plenty of resources on the web to learn html. First you really should have an html editor, although notepad will work. It is very easy to make a simple mistake and ruin a whole page if you are not familiar with html.

I would learn and practice before I offer it as a service. Like I said you could make a very costly mistake if you are not careful in your coding. Replacing text is pretty straight forward but deleting text coding could be disastrous.

Lee is right, you have to know what not to do!! Review and study a html tutorial, there are many free online and read up on how to upload and download using FTP. Once you understand what is going on it would be easy to do what that client has asked.

Don't forget to make a backup of the file before you make changes.

Cheers!!
