Question Feeling Overwhelmed
I am feeling a little overwhelmed ut: about designing a website. Do I need one right away?

What is the simplest way to get a website without spending a lot of money?

I've often thought of taking website design classes at the local community college. This might be the time to do it.

Hi Dawn,

Before you decide about your site, please take some time to read through the website development posts here on VAF under Website Development category. There are many ideas listed there about free websites and lost cost options.

Many VAs start out with free sites on MSFT Live Office, for example, however, here's a tip...if you use a free site, and then you decide later to upgrade to a customized site such as Wordpress and place that on a paid host, you will not be able to transfer the info. So you might want to take the plunge initially for a low cost hosting option. It will save headaches later redoing a site all together.

With that said, getting a website together is key for virtual assistants. So that is definitely recommended.

If you have the time and it sounds like you do, my suggestion is to take that website design course at the local CC. I say this because you can get your return on investment by offering this later as a service. Lately it seems that many potential clients want their sites updated and if you have the background you can secure the account. So if you can do this course work, IMO it can only serve to be beneficial to not only the creation of your own site but for future work on potential client sites as well.

Janine

Thanks for your input and advice, Janine. I think I will take the plunge and take the course.
