Default Does your website have a search box?
Does your website have a search box? Think about how you look for information. Do you read all the links and the nav bar to discover where you should begin looking for information? It depends on the site and how many links there are.

The first thing I look for is a search box. Webmasters don't always make them readily available. If I can't find it at the top of the page, I usually go elsewhere.

If you've found a great source for a search box, please let me know.

Hi Linda

Google just released a new set of tools called Google Web Elements - http://www.google.com/webelements/ to make it easier to add Google products like calendar, conversation, search, map news, spreadsheet etc and one of the elements is adding custom search box.

http://www.google.com/webelements/customsearch/.

I haven't tried it myself but hopefully its what you are looking for

Thanks Kemi. I looked at a Google insert search box before and when searching, it displays a white page with Google ads & no way to get back to the searched site. Front Page 2003 is capable of creating a search function but unfortunately many webhosts do not support it, although other Front Page 2003 add-ins do function. Thanks for your input.

This new google customersearch just came out a couple of days a ago and looks like its more inline to the searched site and you can even customize the search result page to look like your site. So I believe it behaves differently than the original it you want to try it out.

I was thinking about a search box as well. But I don't want my clients going off onto another website to have to back track to me again... I have a search box on my handbag store site but not on my VA site. I guess it depends on how many pages you plan on having on your site. Good luck with your search and sorry I couldn't be of much help in finding you a search box.
