Default Converting website traffic to contact info/leads
I see a lot of people are visiting my site, however, I don't have a way to track who has done so, so that I could include them when sending out my monthly newsletter, blog or coupons, etc. I am thinking of offering something for free to download so that in turn I would get their email addresses/contact info. Does anyone do this? if yes, what are you offering for free on your website?

Thanks for the ideas!

I am in the same boat, Nellie. I would like a way to track who is viewing my website. Is there a program or an add-on to Wordpress that I can utilize?

I use Google Analytics to analyze the traffic on my website, but I haven't found anything that tells you who actually viewed the site. I can tell where the viewer lives, how they found the site, which pages they visited, etc. which is also helpful information. If there is something out there that tells you who actually viewed the site, I would be interested in knowing about it. I suspect that there are privacy concerns and that is why it is not included in an analysis of the website traffic.

The free download you might offer would be a way to build a list of potential clients, but that is different from knowing who viewed your site. As for ideas for a free download, look at other VA websites, bloggers, or any sites that interest you to see what others have done.

I've been doing a social media marketing course on alison.com and the host recommends creating a "squeeze page" in which you offer something for free download, like an ebook. That means the person would have to sign up and enter their email address for the free download and then you can start building a client list.

Well you need to have an autoresponder in order to create an appropriate squeeze page because you need to have an opt-in box. I believe mailchimp is free up to 300 subscribers. Try googling how to create a squeeze page and I'm sure something will come up.

You can also put your "freebie" on your home page along with the optin box. You still need to have a list management system like MailChimp and an Autoresponder or web page to deliver the freebie.
