Default Contacting someone about their site
Hi!
I am designing Wordpress based websites for people and wanting to add more clients. I have been on websites before that were lacking in features and creativity. I am curious if there are any recommendations on how to contact someone with a not-so-good website.
Thanks,
Vanessa

I too develop sites as part of my offerings. Here is what I found: people with not so great sites often times do not think they need improvement. You can contact them with a few "get update" tips or "how to" on improvements with your information. Please note that that some of these business owners may have spent a great deal of time and money on their bad sites and could be put off by this approach.

The best thing to do is network with business owners, get to know them and then make some recommendations to them. I have found however that some people are just uninformed as to how a bad site will not help their business. They think that as long as they have a site they are good to go so you need to give them case studies on how the improvements will help them overall.

Lee, as always has a great point. I just wanted to add a bit to that, because I just went through this with my own messaging. Rather than tell people something like - "I can help you do xxyyzz." Ask a question. "Do you know anyone who wants xxyyzz." Your hope is that they say - "Yes ME!" When you phrase the benefits in a form of a question that takes it out of you pointing out that they need help, and it up for them to acknowledge they do, if they already knew they had an issue.

Thanks for the info! My marketing is more along the lines of general virtual assistance so I think working in my newer offerings of web design is ok without being offensive to their design. I think that's a great idea Pam to see if they know someone who needs help.
Thanks again!
