Default Colors for Websites
Hello Fellow VA's!

I remember seeing one time a posting that had information about how certain colors on websites create different reactions and/or promote different perspectives. For instance green brings about a perception of success, money, etc.

I was sure it was in this forum, and I thought it was a sticky, but I can't seem to find it again. Does anyone happen to know where that post might be?

Thanks tons!!

Pam

I remember a reference in the Virtual Assistant's Guide to Marketing (Amazon). But I also searched online with success as well, using something like "colors," "psychological."

I also vaguely recall a post like that, but I'm at a loss on how to search for it. Take a look at this site though for some great color combinations: http://www.colourlovers.com/

Very cool I love changing my blog around once and awhile but not too good at matching things up.

Thanks for the advice and links regarding colors for websites. Color schemes aren't my strength, so I need lots of help.

I personally didn't choose colors based on scheme. I researched the meanings of colors and their affects on the mind and then I matched them cosmetically. This is how I chose my business colors. I hope this helps.

Google it! Green is the color of money ! Actually, it is a known fact that certain colors will promote different moods but I'm not sure that I would base my colors on that concept alone. Go with trends and preferences.

ColorsOnTheWeb is fantastic tool for determining which colors complement one another. I also like to use ColourLovers for coming up with fresh new color palletes.

I had originally designed my website with a red background and orange letters, which looked really great. But after looking at it so many times I realized it made me very tense, so I changed it to blue and white with black letters. Not nearly as exciting, but much more soothing. I certainly don't want my prospective clients being tense.

Here is a link to an article on the psychology of color in marketing. I think it makes sense to see what the colors on your website convey. I didn't know red made people hurry to leave. Now I do and am glad I changed my color scheme. It now conveys trustworthiness, honesty, youth, sophistication, and elegance.

Not only is it important to keep in mind that different colors can and do evoke different emotions -- but choosing complementary colors for your site is important too.

Tammi (writeassociate) and I recently ran in article in our collaborative ezine all about color schemes for your website. I included some resources for choosing color for your website in the article. You can read it here: http://tinyurl.com/yf2xkwk

Look back about 12 hours ago and Tess had a post about a Call to action - there are links in there to some really good articles, one about color...

Very interesting! I didn't give it much thought when designing my website, but I am glad I chose teal and coral as my main colors now!
