Hi Tiffany - this can be a little tricky in 1shopping cart.
Answer in short: You do need to manually remove the member from the recurring billing so they won't be billed again.
Tips to look out for:
If they unsubscribe themselves (when they get an email message) this can affect the billing ...
1. If they unscribe from the entire list so they are no longer eligable to receive email - 1shopping cart will fail to bill them. This is important to know because if a member has had a hard bounce they may be removed from the list. You may be losing members this way without knowing.
2. If they only unsubscribe from the Membership Autoresponder, they way THINK they have cancelled from the group. However, shopping cart will still bill them - this can result in angry customers.
