I have used article marketing in the past and found it to be an effective way to get my name out there. I have seen a lot of other businesses and VAs link back to my articles in their blogs. I plan on submitting one a week for the next 3 months to see how it works now.

That's a really good point too about others linking back to your article. I usually add in the bio - article is free to be reprinted as long as bio remains. I want people to take my articles and add them to their blogs, newsletters, etc. Especially if they happen to be in the same industry. I also love that articles have staying power. You never know when someone will find it even years later.

Personally, I think article marketing, when done purposefully and with attention to quality (both in the article itself, as well as the placement online), can be very beneficial.

I agree with Janine.
I have seen USA and UK businesses hiring overseas article writers to post on directories.
USA businesses tend to focus more on Facebook, Twitter and articles on their blogs.

I think all these ideas are great and necessary for promoting a virtual business.
