Default When you least expect it
Last November I did a small targeted email offering my services and got a couple of responses asking about my rates. I responded and never heard back from them. Well, yesterday I got an email from one of those people saying he had some work he needed done and asked about my rates (I guess my response didn't get to him).

The moral of the story - marketing takes time - a contact you make today may turn into business a year down the road.

How about this one Julia...

Today I get a call on the business mobile and getting all excited thinking it might be my first client I answered to a girl looking to become a VA and wondering if I was taking on staff!

I explained that the business is new to me and that at the moment I am not looking to recruit. However I gave her some pointers and a couple of websites she might try out (including this one) and then she told me that she had been given my details by one of the people I e-mailshot a couple of weeks ago! He pointed her in my direction to look for work...How bizarre is that?

She did say that she was going to recommend me as I was very helpful and lovely to chat to so that made my day

I know Sharen, it's interesting how things work out. I have a client I obtained because she was on my mailing list but she sent an email to me by mistake suggesting that I may be a place for her friend to look for work. She then sent me a note to please ignore the previous message, it was sent in mistake. I replied no problem, but if I could ever help her to contact me. A few weeks later she did. New clients don't always arrive in a straight line.

Wonderful news Julia!

This a perfect example on why I tend to send out periodic checking in emails...it works!

Thank you for the inspiration ladies! As a newbie, you have really given me some valuable pointers about being patient and to keep trying because you just never know.

I usually send out something to my main target market on a regular basis, by regular mail. I don't like sending out emails to non-clients - getting email from people trying to get my business anoys me and I don't want to to that to people I am marketing to. It costs more but I think is more effective in the long run. This particular person is in an industry that is not in my target group so I gave it a shot, sent out about five or six messages and got a reply back which was kind of neat.
