Default Should I pay for a listing in AT&T online Yellow Pages?
Just wondering if anyone has, and if it was worth it. Their sales rep called me after I put up my free listing and ran a huge spiel about how he can guarantee me (uh huh, right!) sales. I almost hung up on him. They want 295/mo to do it, and claim they'll set up a web page for me as well.

Has anyone had experience with them?

Thanks in advance,

Sam

First of all, no one can "guarantee" you sales. $295/mo for an online telephone listing is a huge ripoff. Don't do it! There are a million places online you can list your phone number for free.

I listed a different business with the on-line AT&T yellow pages - heard the guarantee's too. I even advertised in multiple counties. In the end it was a HUGE MISTAKE! No phone calls (well, maybe three in one year). I had much better results direct advertising. Just my experience...

Hi Sam,

My two cents worth at $295 a month I can think of a lot of other things for my business that will give me more value for the money.

Thank you both, that's what my instincts were telling me. When someone says they can 'guarantee' me sales, I automatically distrust them.

Karen I have to tell you, I noticed your avatar pic ...of Rosie the Riveter... I had the privilege of working with one of them last year! She was incredible, little bitty 4'8" 80something spitfire. They ran a big story in the paper about those women too, reprinted the poster beside a pic of her in the same pose with similar clothing style. It was amazing. Here's a link to the story if you want to see it.

Rosie the Riveter in 2007

(hrm, it says that was March this year... seems like so much longer ago.. LOL And she's not 5'1"... not even close. Maybe she was back then, but I'm 5'4" and she comes to my shoulder.)

Haven't had coffee yet... rambling. Anyway.. Thanks again for the feedback!

Sam

Just think of all the things you CAN do for $295 that WILL bring business in your door. An yellow pages listing probably is not one of them! That is the beauty of this forum - FREE resources and advise to help you along the way.

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the link. I'm running to get my coffee and then back for what should be a very interesting read. What a privilege it must have been to get to know one of these ladies.

Have a productive - joyful day!

If anyone guarantees that you will receive sales......RUN FOR THE HILLS!

Please do not throw away your money. Here's a tip. Take a look at Monster.com or other employment related websites, check out who is looking to fill positions that closely align with your skill set and send your brochure/advertising info to them.

That costs significantly less than the $295 you were going to throw away with that sales rep.

Also, if you have any hotels nearby, try leaving your brochure/ad materials in the lobby and other areas to attract traveling businesspeople who may be in need of your services. If you get their business and they want your service completed right away, you could tack on a premium to your standard service rate.

You can advertise online for free. Sign-up on switchboard. com and/or 411.com. You will be surprised how many people use these sites. Save your $$$ AT&T contacted me years ago and I haven't missed them since.

I have the cheapest listing through Yellow Pages.com and I haven't gotten anything off it. It's about $28 a month but I also had to sign up for a year so I can't cancel. Not good when I'd like to spend that trying something else.
