Default Sales Agents/Account Executives?
I am going out on a limb here, because I don't recall ever seeing this but: has anyone used a sales agent or account executive to help drum up business? Granted, this might work better with multi-va practices than a solo practitioner but I was just wondering if anyone used outside help for their "sales department." I had someone interested in my skill set but she also wanted someone who had a background in sales, and I do not. But it made me think outside of the box, if you will.

I imagine depending on your hourly or retainer rate you have to consider how much you'd be willing to offer that makes it a win-win for both of you. But I think it could work.

I would love to hear people thoughts on this!

You may want to consider a strategic alliance with a sales agent. For example, I have an alliance with a marketing pro. If any of my clients want her skills I bring her in and we work with the client to develop an overall package. Generally we each bill for our services but there have been times one of us has subbed for the other. On the flip side if her clients need services I provide she does the same.

It works out to be a win-win for both but you need to be sure you have a solid plan and agreement so it does not get one sided.

I agree with Lee - I have partnered with various businesses so that I can offer more to my clients - I operate on a subcontractor basis with them that I do all the billing and while my client is aware of the subcontractor through my agency being a single bill they are happy so they don't have to worry about anything. I have tried other ways but this works best for me. On the other hand I have have a strong marketing and sales background that compliments my administrative skill set - I have marketed for other VA's to help them - again - this is a win win for me - as I get to help another VA build her business and grow and if they have a client who needs my services I have offered them a reduced hourly rate as they are connected with one of my partnerships. I hope that made sense...
