Default Replying to Part Time Positions -- Not Necessarily Virtual and Converting
Has anyone attempted this? I see so many part time administrative positions posted on craigslist, local newspaper, etc. and wonder why these people don't consider hiring a VA. I thought about sending my resume and other information about the VA industry and how it saves the business owner money.

Has anyone ever done this? If so, what were your results. I'm thinking of the right wording for the conversion.

Thoughts?

I have heard that other VAs send out their info sometimes.

I've been thinking about it, but I am also quite choosey and most part time positions don't sound very exciting, otherwise I would send out my info. I guess a lot of smaller companies just don't know much about VAs or they get intimidated by the term.

I send out information all the time to part-time bookkeeping positions on craigslists and others. Basically just a letter responding to their needs and letting them know there is another option. I explain to them who I am and what a VA is and why working with a VA could save them time and money.

I haven't gotten a client yet this way, but I have gotten plenty of inquiries, a couple consultations and alot interest shown on my website. I concentrate mainly on my local area and within the state and I sure that one day I'll receive a client going this route.

Diddo what Deb said. I have sent emails responding mostly to PT bookkeeping gigs. No clients but several inquiries. Bookkeeping is a hard one for some people to let go remotely, but If something catches my eye I still send an email. You never know what will happen.

I have had the same thoughts. This week I have sent out several e-mails with this in mind - no responses yet, but they do seem to be checking out my website.

I think this could potentially be an excellent strategy if we could change the mentality of what we can do for business owners. I agree with Tamika that the wording has to be just right. I was thinking about holding a free seminar based on this subject and maybe change the way people think a little.

Just thought I would throw this out there ... I was reading another post that was discussing spam and advertising. Does anyone have any thoughts if this perticular subject would fall into the spam category? Until I read that thread I hadn't thought about it??

I don't think this would fall under spam. You are basically responding to a posting for a position they have available....the only difference is your not responding as a possible employee.

I agree with Deb. They are seeking qualified candidates so it shouldn't be considered SPAM since we ARE qualified candidates. You just have specific ways in which you work. I think I might see about crafting something for this purpose. Something generic enough so that I don't have to think too hard about just "shooting it out" when I see something that interests me.

I have replied to some local ads, and like others I have gotten people that want more information but it never goes any farther than that. I think it is a hit and miss type of thing. I have done the opposite also by posting my own ad offering my services and have gotten quite a few inquiries and 1 client.

I think you need to be patient and keep working it. When you find that one person, it will all fall in place. Good luck.
