I followed a link earlier for contracts and agreements, which in turn led to another website.
This website was to do with freelance work, you see a job you may be interested in and bid for it. Now I don't have a problem with bidding, but am unsure about having to pay membership. Apart from the site being American, therefore all bids would be in Dollars, I am in the UK and so far haven't found one in GBP. My question is, has anyone else thought about going down this route to bring in some bread and butter work?
I came across a new (2 person) VA outfit today about 40 miles away offering $10 an hour, available 24/7, citing a huge roster of VAs with every skill known to man and then some. It is obvious to me that they are a brokerage, do no work themselves, just farm it all to India at $4 an hour while they sit around and pocket the difference. Of course when their clients receive work with ghastly spelling and grammar they will learn you get what you pay for.
Sad to see our industry being so abused, but there are scammers and profiteers everywhere in our society so I guess VA is the latest opportunity to make a fast buck with no work [sigh}
Personally the sites requiring membership usually have so many oversea vendors that it makes it nearly impossible to compete and truly they are only about the money.
If you're thinking of investing any money, invest it in an organization such as IVAA where you'll get access to their RFPs. At least the people sending requests have a better idea of what their looking for.
Also you can set up a google alert for RFPs. Never know what might come across your desk that way.
That's my opinion.
