Hi! Have a question - what do you think of the online outsourcing websites that they have - odesk, etc? I need all the help I can get right now, as I have just learned that my hours will be cut back at my current job (and I am just returning to work after major surgery) I am trying to read almost every post to give me more info on how to market myself - which has been helpful, but I am looking for a little extra help.

I've found there are really mixed reviews and feelings about the freelance sites - on the one hand you're competing for bids against people with a much lower standard of living so their rate is often pennies to the dollar. On the other, if you stick to your guns and believe the old adage that your potential clients will 'get what they pay for' the sometimes project very well may come through for you, at a rate you can live with, AND will very possibly lead to more work/referrals.

I haven't used a freelance site for ages but when I was first starting out I did some projects via GetAFreelancer.com - haven't experienced oDesk but don't care for their 'big brother' approach (they randomly record you on video when you're signed in to work... a bit much for me but I understand the need on some level, I guess...).

If you search this site for oDesk or Elance you'll turn up tons of threads where these sites are each discussed in greater detail.

Thanks Tess! I want to try them out to see what happens. Did find one that was a perfect fit for me -paid $18 an hour, but still waiting for a reply. Guess it would not hurt to try these out. Will look for the other threads. Thanks again!

I got so discouraged with elance and sologig because the couple of things I bid on, based on what the person said was their budget, was immediately denied or I never heard back from them. It is difficult to know where to begin getting your feet wet as a free lancer. :huh2:
