Default Marketing Tips for the Shy Entrepreneur
Uncomfortable with public speaking? Not sure how to approach a potential client? Well, today’s guest will share her shy marketing tips firsthand.

Ok, you may be thinking, wait if you are a business owner – you can’t be shy. It just doesn’t work. Well, some of us are just born shy, that is our nature and try as we might to change our ways, leaving our comfort zone is an arduous and often painful task (trust me, I know). Today’s guest Miki Markovich explains that you just have to do one simple thing in order to be successful; and that one thing is to just be you.

Miki is the author of the book "You Want me to What? Public Relations and Marketing for the Shy Person."

“You Want Me to What? Public Relations and Marketing for the Shy Person” was written with the shy and introverted in mind. There are no calls to be aggressive, underhanded or high-pressure. The truth is a) you’ll never excel unless you are comfortable with and confident in your approach and b) often overlooked, subtle sales strategies can be far more successful than “guerilla” marketing." More information about the book can be found here: http://www.shymarketingsecrets.com/ebook

I first learned about Miki and her book when she responded to a call for guests. The title of her suggested topic – marketing for the shy entrepreneur immediately caught my eye, but even more than that; Miki’s presence (simply in the tone of her email) stood out to me even more. I knew I had to have her on my show. Boy, I am so glad I went with my hunch! During our conversation Miki shared an inspiring, albeit chilling story; a story that brought her to where she is today. She also shared several tips on marketing for the shy person. Whether you are a shy entrepreneur or not – Miki is a person with whom you feel comfortable in talking to and even more relaxed listening to. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the show (and learn some great tips while you are at it too!).

Darlene,
I can't tell you how much I needed to hear this podcast. The suggestions and tips given by Miki Markovich are fantastic. I am going to check out her blog right now. I am so glad that you spoke about networking meetings. I am very shy and the idea of going to networking meetings and talking to strangers has been causing me a lot of anxiety. It is very comforting to hear that others feel the same way and have lived to tell the tale. I am grateful for the tips you both offered. Many thanks!

Best,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

I am so happy to hear you say that. It is feedback like yours that makes me know that the shows I put out there are helping.

If you haven't listened to my episode with Ivan Misner yet, you should. Here is the link: http://www.virtualassistantforums.co...n-misner-18049. Ivan offered some great tips for people that are new to networking and also shared ideas for entrepreneurs who may be a little bit more introverted.

Keep the feedback coming!

Darlene

You and I speak the same language! I have the earliest memories (of being shy) at the age of 4...my dad took me to the bank with him and the teller said "oh, you are so cute!" I ran and hide behind my dad's back!

I am now 35 yrs old and I KNOW that my shyness is hurting my business growth.

I have to break through this shy-cycle

Thank you so much for sharing this interview, is there anyway I can download this recording?

Thank you

Also, if you have iTunes, you can download the episode from there as well.

This really hits home for me! I can speak over the phone but never in person/public. I am shy even in this site for posting messages. I have delayed a BLOG because of being shy. I am going to purchase the book. WHOA! Thanks for posting the interview.

Sheree -- you are so welcome! I must admit, sometimes I log onto Twitter and just don't know what to say. Must be my shyness coming through!

I think the biggest lesson out of all this is that it is okay to be you and not worry so much about the rest. That is when your true light will shine. I think.

Hi Darlene -

I am so glad that you decided to do a podcast on shy entrepreneurs. I was extremely shy and have found myself slowly coming out of my shell just recently. It's great to know that I'm not the only shy one out there and that it's okay to sometimes stay within your comfort level.

I also felt much better knowing that I'm not the only one that does the smiley face on professional letters it's just who I am. Glad to know that my shyness will not impede my business success.

Thanks again.
