Question Marketing Suggestions for a new VA
Hi everyone! I just started my business on Monday and I'm so excited about this business opportunity!

My question is about marketing. I believe that having an online presence is probably the most important thing...belonging to forums and associations...but I was wondering what you more experienced VAs have done. What online associations have you found beneficial and have you done any local marketing or join your local Chamber of Commerce? Did local marketing get you business?

I guess what I'm really asking is...What works?!?! LOL!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions and advice to come! I really appreciate it!

Hi there You know, in my own opinion - what works best is actually a diverse approach to marketing, experimenting with many different types of connecting with your target market is most effective.
A combination of print ads (postcards, promo materials etc.), web (anything and everything online that you can possibly take advantage of), and live networking (local chambers, small business groups and meetups etc.) will ALL have an positive impact on your practice.

There's certainly something to be said for local marketing (although I can't say I've ever personally done that) but in that regard you have the opportunity to make an impression in person, that you would otherwise be lacking with straight online connections. Some clients really will connect with you better when they can see you and meet with you - so don't overlook local as an option. But also, don't limit yourself based on location - I'd suggest determining WHO your ideal client is and then brainstorm all the ways in which you can reach them directly - either based on their industry, interests, etc.

Good luck with your new practice!

Hi Kari,

I haven't done any local marketing yet. My clients have been through referrals or online networking.

I have a few VA friends that have done local marketing and they attribute 30-40% of their client base to that.

Like Tess, I think it depends on who your target market is and where they can be found. Once you determine that, it will point you in the direction you need to go.

Good luck Kari. You'll do great!!
