Hello everyone,

I need everyone's opinion on this one. I feel kind of weird marketing my business at my day job. I work in a building where everyone knows each other and I'm afraid my boss might find out about my business. I just don't want her to know yet. There is a huge potential of me getting clients at this location, since there's about 30 companies in this building. Please advise.

Hi Karla

Do you have a good relationship with your boss? If so, I would simply talk to him/her and explain that you are starting a VA biz at home as a side job and was hoping it was okay to let others know what you are doing that you work with. I wouldn't get into too much detail or give too many specific. I mean, will your services be of benefits to others or would you be taking business away from someone else?

I mean, if you were working as a car salesman and you opened up your own car lot and went into work and plastered a sign about your car lot then no I don't think that would work but doing VA work could help many different types of businesses. I would open it up for discussion with your boss and take it from there.

Hi Robin,

Actually, I do have a fair relationship with my boss. In fact, my services include things that I currently do at my job (A/P-A/R). I will not be taking any business away from anyone, instead, I can be of help to some companies.

Hi Karla; well then, I think you should go for it and have a little chat with your boss. Just show him/her the benefits of your services. And when you find yourself overloaded with work, keep me in mind ;-)

If everyone knows each other your boss will find out. Have a discussion with her before that happens. Who knows she may just send a few clients your way.
