Default Marketing - Craigs List
Here is my strategey. I look at the job descriptions and if I sense the job a good candidate for VA or if they mention no insurance or loads of work for $10 an hour then I send an email basically saying "if you are having problems filling this position..." then I go into my VA speech.

Next I look for the word "telecommute." So here is the question, I applied for such a job today and he is offering $10 an hour to start and then revisit. My rates are $30 an hour billed in increments of 15 minutes. I am still trying to secure my first client and I am becoming desperate for work in this business.

The job involves calling the insurance commissioner, dealing with clients and the adjuster and keeping a report. This is PT work.

How should I handle a situation when they state their rates and I want to get their business?

I would explain the benefits of using a VA, rather than hiring a paid employee (no employer matching taxes, no overhead expenses, only pay for actual time needed rather than trying to 'find' work for a set amount of time, etc.), I would NOT reduce my rates as this sets a bad precedence for you.

I understand the desperation for clients (I have been trying to find just 1 more for over 2 months) but patience is a must to survive and thrive in this business...

I agree with Goddess.. Don't compromise your rate, because it will compromise your worth in their eyes and we never want to start a business relationship like that. Show him the benefits even using a cost comparison table available (around here somewhere) and hope that he "gets it".

I agree with both posts so far you should not compromise your rate for oh so many reasons! This blog entry maybe worth reading http://www.grittyva.com/2009/01/06/w...ng-to-wise-up/
