I had actually tried to create a wiki for a client in the past - she had authored a book - but the page was deleted because it was said she was not considered a 'figure of note' or something to that effect....NOT that all of our practices aren't notable

I don't really understand what their criteria and policies are...so not sure if those would stick.

I only have 8 links so far. I'm actually surprised more VAs haven't chimed in with their information.
I was hoping to get a large list gathered before I start submitting.

Oh well, I'll give it till the end of the week and I'll enter them all in Wiki over the weekend.

I just went to add the names I had and found this bit of information:


I don't understand why there is a "Service Providers" section when I cannot put a link to a site that is a service provider? There is a link there to a business site that offers virtual assistant services - why can't I add?

You are correct, that is a bit counter intuitive - I've renamed the section to the proper "External Links". Regardless of this, I will answer your question. The short version is that the external links are supposed to provide the reader with additional information on the topic. You link is self promotion, and does not provider the reader with any additional information. If you would like additional information, please read WP:ADVERT#External_link_spammi ng, Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest #What_is_a_conflict_of_interes t.3F & Wikipedia:External_links#Links _normally_to_be_avoided --ShakataGaNai 05:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Not to burst any ideas but Wikipedia will often delete these add ons. Take a moment to read the guidelines about submitting information. Since this is an encyclopedia site, I looked into submitting my business name as a listing - kinda defining who and what my business is and does. The only way this is eligible is to be noted as an informational listing with no hint of advertising. Think of it like a very strict press release - news worthy and educational content only. Additionally, all new topics need to be submitted to the Wikipedia editor for approval and the editor will list it. Done by their guidelines, IMHO, I believe each business could gain their own individual listing.
