I have an idea - Virtual Assistant Forums

I hope this is ok to post.

I was wandering around Wikipedia just now and it dawned on me.

Anyone can add/edit the content there. So I went and looked up the listing for Virtual assistant and the only links listed on the bottom are for 2 VA directories.

The site is read-only right now due to web maintenance so I was not able to get started on my idea.
I feel there should be direct links to VA websites listed at the bottom of the page.
I know this could get a bit overwhelming but I have decided to take on this task.

If you would like your site listed on Wikipedia, please PM me your link along with the state you are located (ie. NY--Vital Office Solutions)

Actually, that listing *used* to have numerous links to VA sites - one of them was my own. At one point someone went in and deleted all of them...not sure why, it wasn't really any concern of mine. Just an FYI.

In any case, best of luck updating the article!

I had a feeling I wasn't the first to try adding to it. That is the only bad part about wikipedia being editable by anyone.
My idea is to gather all the links/names and keep them on my computer, submit them all at once and then check the page every morning as part of my internet routine and resubmit as needed. Basically try to "beat" whoever it is that feels the need to delete things.
Maybe I'll wear them down after a while and they will realize I'm just going to keep reposting LOL. I can be a "brat" like that when I need to be.

Well, looking back on it I have some idea as to what happened...there was another virtual assistant listed there as well but her listing wasn't up to the wikipedia 'code' (Whatever

) so I sent her an email and asked her for the info I needed to 'fix' her listing. Her reply was shockingly aggressive and she basically said 'I own this listing' HA! And then she deleted my entry. I let it go but did check back a number of months later and ALL of the external links had been removed.

I think it's really great that you want to do this and your approach is sound! Should be just fine

I also have an idea - do you all think it would be a good idea if your VA pratice has a wiki page (i.e. for myself I'd have a Office Butterfly page, for Lily it'd be Virtual Office Goddess, etc...) ??

I actually thought of that but, in my opinion, I think it defeats the purpose of Wikipedia. It's meant as an encyclopedia for information not an advertising venue. Listing the sites all on the one page makes it a better reference tool.

I had actually tried to create a wiki for a client in the past - she had authored a book - but the page was deleted because it was said she was not considered a 'figure of note' or something to that effect....NOT that all of our practices aren't notable

I don't really understand what their criteria and policies are...so not sure if those would stick.

How's the main entry coming along?

I only have 8 links so far. I'm actually surprised more VAs haven't chimed in with their information.
I was hoping to get a large list gathered before I start submitting.

Oh well, I'll give it till the end of the week and I'll enter them all in Wiki over the weekend.
