Question How long is an Elevator Speech?
I am trying to develop a solid elevator speech because I find myself fumbling over my words when asked about my profession. Please Help!

What should it include?
How long should it be?
What should I be sure NOT to say?

I think that the max time should be 2 minutes. Anything beyond that and you may lose the attention of your audience. It should include details about your services, your experience, and how your service will add value to their organization.

I have 30, 45 & 60 second commercials. I read recently that a hook or tagline, is not as important as they used to think, but I disagree. I think anything extra that makes you stand out is good.

I know a man who tells his company name, that he does web development & says, "You all know what that means." He then proceeds to tell a joke, instead of a commercial. He even keeps track of where he has told which joke. And of course, they are all above the board jokes.

My elevator speech is "I handle the necessary bookkeeping and admin tasks for entrepreneurs so they can focus on growing their business instead of running it."

You do usually want to keep it at a maximum of 1 minute, depending on the situation. Many networking groups hold you to 30 seconds.

One thing that I like to do is tell a story vs. having a marketing snippet. PC: "So, Pam what do you do?" Me: "Well, Ms. PC...Like last week, where I helped a client learn how to spend only 15 minutes a day on email - no matter how much email they get, I help small business owners find time to do what they love."

I was taught this technique, which has so far worked pretty well because then they are - "15 minutes a day?" HOW??? Then it opens up the door for discussion.
