This article had some good points about what to consider when working as a Virtual Assistant, like figuring out a niche and reviewing your relevant skills and knowledge. Also, that you can look for jobs that might convert well to a VA job as well as having a big focus on good customer services.
There were a couple of points that I didn't agree with though such as I'm not sure why they mentioned having a resume ready...I can understand using this if someone asked about your prior work experience but I wouldn't readily submit it as part of my bid for a Virtual Asisstant gig since you aren't applying for a job.
I also didn't agree with the approach of offering to work for free for a week to let someone see how well you could work for them. We don't even do this in the JOB world let alone as a freelancer. We don't see auto mechanics or lawyers offering to do this and neither should we. Personally, I believe it's much better to come across as so confident in your abilities and skills that you are worth every penny that you charge.
Thanks for posting this, I do think it does provide a nice, quick, overview of things to consider.
