Has anyone heard of Angie's List?
It was mentioned by someone at an online local networking site I'm a member of and I'd never heard of it before. A search here didn't turn up anything. Does anyone here use Angie's List or have your heard of it?

Make it a great day!

Never heard of it. Heard of Craig's list. Probably someone has done something similar.

Re: Has anyone heard of Angie's List?
Although I can't argue that Angie and Craig are a "couple" or maybe even married; however, like most groups of two who like to hang out together they are pretty different.

I stand corrected as I should have made my question more clear. Angie's List seems to be a Merchant Circle version just for home-owners. "Tired of
lousy service? When you need help with repairs around the house, Angie’s List members will help you decide which service companies to trust and which to avoid. Take a quick tour."

My question should have been...is there something along these lines for the service industry - other than Merchant Circle - if you wonder why please see the post about their nasty tactics to get you to think there is something wrong and spend your money!

I've seen commercials on TV for Angies list. It sounded like a referral list for services. In other words if you really liked the plumber that you used, you'd go to Angies list and post a great write up about him (and a bad one if the plumber was no good, of course).

If I remember correctly (I haven't bothered to look for it again), you have to pay to subscribe to use the list.

Angie's list has been around for awhile it's to find home repair specialists. They do the screening and I believe the contractors need to pay a fee to be on the list. I have friends that used them in the NY area and were very happy with the results.

If you've seen TV adverts for it then, perhaps it's pertinent to the US? I'm in Australia and never heard of it nor seen adverts for it. Probably explains why.

I had to double check this because I couldn't remember, but the users (consumers) are the ones who pay to subscribe and the contractors do not pay at all. I think that is so it's not viewed as "advertising" but more of a consumer driven referral site.

Yes, I do think it is only here in the US. It sounds like quite the success story. I swear I do remember seeing her site in the early stages and it was a bit amateurish - but apparently, she was a mom starting out with a business from home like many of us. However, hers has really exploded into a national organization here in the US.

I have to admit, I finally went to look at her site and was reading through her information.

And the site

Her rise to success is well worth a look for any of us.

I will have to check it out. I have heard of it but have never actively gone to it.
