Hello. I am wondering if anyone has had success in getting clients by contacting companies that are advertising for administrative help.

I've heard of one or two who have been successful in that regard. I did it some time ago unsuccessfully. Generally those businesses are in the mindset of wanting to engage an employee and don't wish to consider engaging a self-employed person. You can give it a try - you never know how it might turn out.

You'll probably have better luck with smaller companies or independent contractors.

Yes, I have tried that myself and was very close to cinching a client so it is a tactic that has potential. If you approach it in the right way, you can help the business owner see the benefits of contracting your services instead of a regular employee. I wish I could give you a success story but I didn't quite get the deal but perhaps other members have.
