I am in the process of setting up and have spent an afternoon at a Marketing workshop where it was highlighted that many businesses fail because they didn't research the market properly at the beginning.

At the moment I think I know who my customers are, what they want and how much they will pay but by doing a questionnaire I will be able to see whether my assumptions are right. I am going to put together a questionnaire to send out and I think I will use surveymonkey.com to do this. (I'm open to opinions on this).

Does anyone have a market research questionnaire they would be willing to share with me? I know it will need to be adapted but it would be a start. I have searched the forums and I couldn't find anything regarding this specifically. I haven't added enough posts yet to be able to access the documents and templates available on the forum... I'm working on that!

Good question I would like to know this as well. Right now I am torn between staying a virtual assistant and just hiring additional help as my business grows, or should I just start a full fledge Temp Agency of some sort. A market research would probably be a good idea.

I'm so new in this business, so if someone can help me with a Market Research Questionnaire, please, I will be so greatful.

Try doing a Google search on "market research questionnaire examples" and you will come up with a lot of results. Or Google the key phrase you are looking for within a key industry if you want to narrow it down a bit.

Just poking my head in here! So target market research is on of the services I provide with my VA business. The biggest thing when it comes to target market research or product/service feasibility is researching your competitors and the industry as a whole. Find others who are doing what you are thinking of doing and determine their markets. Are they pointing towards a specific demographic? What makes them successful? What makes them stand apart? What are their business practices? Target market research can be as extensive as you want it to be. Most market research is secondary research (in that people search the internet to find more about the industry and their competitors), but you can also do primary research and literally talk to your competitors to find out who their ideal customers are and what has been most profitable. Most importantly, if you are crafting a questionnaire, you MUST make sure that you are not biasing your question to get a specific answer that you want to hear. It sometimes help to have someone you know look at the questions to see if the questions are leading someone into one direction over another. It can all be daunting but I'd start by learning more in depth about your industry and your competitors.
