Question Do I just start with a website?
I currently accept projects from guru as individual and it's just something I do on the side for extra money along my employment with Verizon that I also do from home.

I am currently looking into starting a business but I thinking of just promoting myself first. I am really confused on how to get started with everything.

I was thinking about getting a domain name, build my website, market myself, then if all is well, I will research about getting a business name. Did anyone start this way?

Or should I start with a business name and corporate it? Then start a website?

I sat down and figured out what services I wanted to offer...then came up with a name...then did the website. But I did all that in like 2 days.

Good luck!

It was pretty much the same for me; I worked on what services I wanted to offer and worked with my site from there. I forget where I read this, but one major factor about your website when it is in its construction phase, be sure not to place pages reading "In Construction" or any mention of it being 'worked' on. Apparently that is supposed to be some taboo or joke with website gurus. I guess it makes sense since some sites tend to be in an indefinite construction mode.

Good luck with the website. Makes sure to post it up when you get done so we can critique it for you!

I agree, I don't think there's necessarily an order that *should* be followed. When I was setting up I started with the things that were the most fun and motivated me - as each piece fell into place I gained more energy for the things I found more tedious. In the end, it was a great experience but I didn't end up wishing I'd done one thing before another, etc.

Yeah, I got a bit confused when I was looking through this site. I was actually clicking on signatures of the ones who post here just to get glance of what their site look like. I notice most of them are certified in different things, they are corporated... but it seems now maybe they didn't start of that way, they have just been fortunate to get to that point.

Yes, it's all a process - one thing at a time Start wherever makes you feel like you're doing something constructive with your time and keep moving forward.
