Ok, so I know what we do is not product based, so these are more difficult to do. Does anybody use coupon (codes?) or special offers with their clients (beyond a free consultation)? Just curious.

No, I don't do that. I made the mistake of offering a discount for a business group I belonged to and found that the respect wasn't there - even at a discount the clients thought it was expensive. Don't discount -don't make that mistake.

I give free hour for all new clients when signing agreement for five hours. It is like a mini retainer program. And I give 5% off to my non-profits. But those are service related not coupons.

Whether you are selling a product or a service, to me, doesn't necessarily matter -- as long as the special offer applies to what you are selling.

I have quite a few ideas in mind for my business in regards to discount promotions or special offers. The way I see it, if you come up with an idea that you think you would like to try, try it. You won't know if it works unless you try.

Obviously you don't want to be burned by the discount or special offer you are offering -- heed with caution, take as many scenarios into account and have a plan for ending the promotion (whether it be a predetermined expiration or whatnot).

Sounds sort of funny, but I got this thought from my sitting down on Sundays and clipping coupons out of the Sunday paper. I am sort of a strange consumer, but I am almost always willing to try something out for the first time if it is free (or discounted appropriately). I just wasn't sure if people who use VA services might be the same!
