This is part 3 of our “cooking with articles” thread. This is a 5 part series that summarizes the Article Marketing teleseminar given by Kim Lednum.
Last time we discussed the “List” article and the “How to” article before that. This week we’re going to talk about the “Checklist” article.
The ‘checklist’ is a popular article format. Its purpose is to help the reader make some sort of assessment. Examples of this kind of article might be a ‘website checklist’ or a ‘marketing plan checklist’. If you’re writing a ‘website checklist’ you might call it ’25 things a website must have’. Then you proceed to list the 25 things a website must have. Or, for our purposes…'25 tools a virtual assistant needs to run a successful VA business'. Then you list 25 tools a virtual assistant needs. (That's it)
Just remember that the recipe for checklist articles states that they include large numbers in them. For instance they might have 15, 25, 50 items in the checklist. Secondly, checklist articles don’t contain much information. The information provided is there just to help the reader check off the list and is written as a guide to help him/her.
To write a checklist article you start with a broad topic but don’t give any advice or instructions to follow. Remember to include the ‘number’ in the title of your article and then proceed to list your items.
Next time we’ll have a look at the recipe for writing a ‘question’ article.
