Default Charity Silent Auctions
Aloha Fellow VAs,

I'd like to share a way that I have found new clients and did a good deed at the same time!

I have donated a few hours of my time as a silent auction item to the big charities on-island. The big charities hold annual fundraisers that really high end business-people/community members attend. Each of these fundraisers solicit items to sell at their silent auctions and it is a great way to get your name in front of potential clients. Not only do you get a tax donation for donating the services, but you may very well gain new clients.

There are even industry specific events (i.e., legal VAs may want to contact the state bar association regarding their annual event, etc.)

I have done this twice so far and picked up extra work at each event. I figure that even if I don't pick-up any extra work, I have still donated to a good cause.

This sounds like a great idea. I also believe it would help those looking for local clients.

Thank you for sharing this,
Andrea~

I donated a couple of gift certificates to a silent auction and actually overheard a group of people discussing me and my business at the event! So, absolutely it's a great way to get your name out there.

This is a perfect way to add to your networking and to give back to your community as well. I am always on the look out for charity events that I can help even if it is to offer my services to them. Volunteer and charity groups not only give you a way to give back but are also a great source of expanding your network. I am glad that this is working for you HawaiiVA.

This is an interesting idea, since I already support a few charities that have silent auctions. What did you offer? x Numbers of work? Something more specific?

I'm just getting started and can use all the "get my name out there" ways I can get!
