Scott demonstrates how marketing on the web is different because “…web marketing is about delivering useful content at just the precise moment that a buyer needs it.” More consumers go online to research the products and services they intend to purchase and do not wish to be inundated with one-way messages. Scott provides readers with advice in how to craft messages that will connect with the audience they are seeking to engage. Each chapter concentrates on a variety of mediums (i.e blogs, press releases, podcasts, etc.) that can be used to tell your story.
Scott concentrates on helping readers focus on producing content that can be easily spread through these mediums. He stresses the importance of starting and maintaining blogs and dedicates a large portion of the book to teaching readers how they can integrate these mediums in order to increase online presence. My favorite section of the book discusses how to create a marketing plan from the buyers’ point of view. Although this seems like common sense advice, I felt like this was definitely worth repeating because many companies are often so focused on making sure the company’s message is being heard instead of listening to the needs of the buyers. Scott shares numerous stories throughout the book of how companies are successfully using these mediums to spread the word about their businesses and inspires readers to get involved.
There are some parts of the book that seem repetitive, but regardless of where readers may be in their journey to reaching buyers using the web, they will find useful advice that can be applied to their business. This book will provide individuals with the rules they need in order to experience online success.
