Default BOOK REVIEW - Beyond Booked Solid
Beyond Booked Solid by Michael Port is a book for service professionals who have a full practice now (or are heading towards a full practice) and want to grow their businesses further without burning themselves out in the process.

In Beyond Booked Solid, Port talks about the 4 criteria for transitioning your business beyond the soloproneur level which are, in a nutshell: 1) profitability, or making sure your pricing structure will be profitable for you; 2) scalability, which basically covers taking a close look at the business to see which tasks can be outsourced to others (an idea we know very well as virtual assistants!); 3) excellence, or working only in the areas of your greatest strengths in order to become an expert in your field; and 4) leverage, which is learning how to work less and make more money from your business. He also explains why the right attitude, disposition and perspective (in not just yourself but in the people you work with also) can make or break your success.

Another main section of this book discusses in detail the common business building blocks, which include franchising, licensing, training the trainer (teaching others to do what you do), etc. Each business building block contains examples of real businesses that successfully used that model, plus straightforward information to help you determine if that model won’t work for you. In addition, there’s another section that dives even deeper into these business building blocks to walk you through the process of choosing the right model for your business.

There are also chapters on effectively managing your projects for optimum productivity, systematizing your business so that it practically runs itself, how to hire the right employees or effectively outsource your work to others, and how to balance your work and personal lives.

Throughout the book, you’ll find simple exercises that you can immediately do to help you move forward in the process of building a better business.

Overall, I found this book to be very useful for any service professional who wants to build a bigger, more effective business.
