I just recently read an article about focusing on offering VA services to the senior citizen market. Never did I think about it but they had an excellent point. A lot of them go into business doing what they always wanted to do and need a little extra hand.

What would some of you think would be the biggest reaon for focusing on this age group in a VA business.

I think I'm skeptical - not that I don't think it's a target market, but I think the willingness to pay a VA what they are worth is not likely when a retiree is already risking their (usually) somewhat limited funds on a new venture. I think it would be a difficult market to determine as well.

A lot of communities have a "TED" center - or Training and Economic Development, either through the SBA, a junior college, or the unemployment department. These are retired executives willing to mentor and walk through start up companies. When I first started I went through business planning, and a few other things with a mentor (it was free) - he also referred me to a few clients. I would think, that I would approach a senior crowd that way - and by referral to find that target market.

Actually the senior's today are what we call the Baby Boomers. They are VA's as well as writers, coaches, speakers and entrepreneurs. Most of the clients I work with are seniors and work very hard.

The benefit of working with a Baby Boomer is you will learn so much from them and grow your skills. They are flexible and kind. There is nothing better than having a client who is flexible and kind

My first client is 75 years old. Like you stated he has taught me amazing things on the technology side of things. He's just a go getter and if they continue working after they retire they're in it for the long haul.

All I can say is don't cross them off your list of potential clients.
