Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
I signed up as an Odesk member, downloaded everything, did all the tests, crafted and tailored each bid specifically to the job but did not get a single interview or response. It was always the case of another provider's bid being lower. Possibly also due to the fact that I didn't have any oDesk work experience although I have experience outside oDesk.
It's a vicious cycle really - without any prior oDesk experience, chances of winning a bid seems lower, and even with prior oDesk experience, you'll most likely have to lower your bid price so much that it's not worth your while. Well, I suppose there's no harm to continue trying to get your foot in, but as I said on another post, I rather work on networking and marketing as there's just so much to do!

Sounds like Odesk is a site to stay away from - who needs that kind of headache?

Been going through the same thing...I think they hire someone with oDesk experience vs. someone who doesn't have any...but yet how are you suppose to have or get experience when no one is willing to hire you instead of that someone who does show oDesk experience in their profile.
I too like you would rather spend my time networking and marketing my own business!

Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
I am a member of Odesk for more than two years now. Yes, it's true the rates are very cheap but I grab it since this is already an opportunity for me. After two years, indeed it was a very great opportunity , Odesk is such a great blessing for me to achieve financial independence. Not only with me but as well with other people known to me. I started as low as $1 per hour but that was fine with me. Of course, I was after higher rates but I see no reason why should I not grab it, if it gives me an opportunity also to learn new things. Also, I always believe that God will take care of the higher rates that I desire. And true enough, GOD slowly raised my rate and still believe that in the coming days he would provide more than what I expect .

Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
I did sign up, but then never fully checked it out. I agree with others in the thread, I don't think I would work for $2/hour. If I do, I think I would pick a local company to work with and discount my rate to benifit both of parties.

Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
Sounds like it's too much trouble and no return on the investment. As another thread talks about, you have to earn enough to pay your taxes, etc. and $1-2 wouldn't make it worth my while.

Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
I also researched it and it seems to involve to much for a maybe situation. My time is so valuable as I am sure yours is to. I just keep looking for more cut and go opportunities.

Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
I've been a member of oDesk for probably more than 2 years. Working in their system during the years 2008,2009 were okay but now, the rates are going down fast. Some are asking to to pay an outrageous amount of less than a dollar per hour. Who can live on that amount? Well, it's sad to say that I had a good experience with oDesk but now, I'm thinking twice.

I'm a member of Odesk but I've never gotten any work from the site. Most everything I've seen pays too low.

Re: Anyone a member of oDesk?
I am a member of Odesk and Guru.com. I find I can get jobs better on Odesk but that is because I take the cheaper income. On Guru.com I have applied for several jobs and been out bid on all of them. I have tried to stay away from both of these sites.
