Re: Another Freelance Site
I also checked out vworker.com, a couple of days ago, and have already decided it is not for me.
As far as I am concerned, this site is a waste of time, especially if you are based in a country with a decent cost/standard of living. Most of the employers posting projects are offering laughingly low compensation. Here are a few examples:
- Someone to write 10 400-500 articles; max. accepted bid is $20 for ALL TEN ARTICLES (Yes that's $2/article)
- Someone to write 5 blog posts; accepted bid was $15
- Someone with a marketing background, including pay-per-click and search engine optimization skills; max. accepted bid is $3/HOUR (that's right - $3 PER HOUR)
I have also seen postings where the max. accepted bid was set for $6/hr. and even one for $2.20 PER HOUR.
By the way, all of the above postings were by employers who are based either in the US or UK, so it's not as if these people are in the developing world and don't have a good sense of the value of peoples' skills. The sad thing is, these kind of posts mostly attract people in the developing world, for whom $2-6 is a good wage. While I am happy that these people are able to find work, I wonder about the quality of the work that will be performed. More importantly, though, is that this is just another example of the exporting of jobs outside of the US, all in the name of saving a buck or two.
I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't spend my career acquiring and honing my skills, only to accept an assignment making less that I could make working at a fast food restaurant! I am sorry if this sounds cocky, but I would sit at home and watch daytime TV than work for those meager amounts. O.k., I will get off of my soapbox, now!
